Subconscious bias refers to the automatic, often unconscious, judgments and stereotypes people hold about others based on factors like race, gender, age or appearance. These biases develop from societal influences, personal experiences, and cultural conditioning, and they can affect our behaviour and decision-making without us even realising it.

While everyone has implicit biases, the challenge lies in recognising and addressing them, as they can lead to significant unintended discrimination which negatively impacts the workplace, especially in relation to:

  • Hiring and Recruitment
  • Performance Evaluations
  • Promotions and Leadership Opportunities
  • Collaboration and Team Dynamics
  • Workplace Culture
  • Impact on Innovation and Creativity
  • Employee Engagement and Retention

Understanding subconscious bias is a critical step toward creating more equitable and inclusive environments, as it helps us become aware of our hidden prejudices and work actively to mitigate their impact.

As part of our ‘Meet the Experts’ series of events, join our workshop to find out more about understanding and addressing subconscious bias in your workplace.
